Title: Nonextensive statistics
Speaker: Tridib Sadhu
Abstract: Nonextensive statistics has been introduced as a possible generalization to standard Boltzmann-Gibbs statistics in order to cover a variety of systems where the latter breaks down. The generalization concerns nonextensive systems, where nonextensivity is understood in thermodynamical sense. Since its introduction, nonextensive statistical mechanics has made possible application to very many natural and artificial systems. I will describe the formalism of the nonextensive statistics and then discuss few possible theoretical and experimental evidences as well as some criticism against the theory.
