Workshop on the Teaching of Computational Physics
A one-day meeting called "Workshop on the Teaching of Computational Physics", is being organized by TIFR, Mumbai on Saturday, March 14, 2009. The meeting will start at 10:30 AM and last till 4:30 PM.
Purpose
The workshop is meant to bring together the varied experiences that the participants may have had in designing and teaching of courses in numerical methods and computational physics at the bachelor's and master's levels, and to discuss the constraints which prevent us from doing more (or different) to prepare students for research environments where computational abilities are a key factor in enhancing one's performance. The workshop will be geared towards discussions and sharing of experiences, but we will try to structure it through a very small set of formal presentations.

Practicalities
The meeting
The meeting will take place in the Sinai Hall of the YWCA International Center (18 Madame Cama Road, Fort, Mumbai). There are facilities for projecting powerpoint or pdf files during the meeting. If you need to use some other format then please check with us beforehand.
Arrival and stay
There will be no airport pickup or drop. Take a taxi to and fro. There is no prepaid taxi at the domestic terminal of the Mumbai airport. The meeting (and the night's accomodation, for those who want it) has been arranged at the YWCA International Center. Payments will be directly handled by us.
Taxis between the airport and YWCA
Taxis to YWCA from the airport should cost around Rs. 300. If your taxi has the old mechanical meter, then the amount on the meter has to be multiplied by a factor of about 14 to compute the cost of your trip. Electronic meters show the correct amount directly. Traffic conditions are unpredictable; allow about 90 minutes between the airport and YWCA during working hours.
At the airport specify that you want to get to "Regal Cinema, Colaba" or "Museum, Colaba". Both landmarks are known to all taxi drivers. Check the location of YWCA Center relative to these landmarks on the map.
Refreshments, lunch and dinner
Coffee and tea will be served during the talks. Lunch will be served at the YWCA. For those who are planning to stay a night, breakfast and dinner are included in the room rental at the YWCA.
