SERC School on Statistical Physics
Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai

February 16-28, 2004

Over the past few decades, statistical physics has grown tremendously, both in traditional statistical mechanics, and in new areas where it has brought new techniques and insights.

This school is mainly pedagogical, aimed at bridging the gap between M.Sc. level courses and current research. The courses are intended to provide a basic introduction to the main areas of current activity and to prepare the participants for the upcoming International Conference on Statistical Physics (Statphys 22) in Bangalore in July 2004.

General theory and rigorous results :  D. Dhar
Critical Phenomena and scaling :  M. Barma
Time-dependent phenomena :  S. Ramaswamy
Exactly solved models :  I. Bose
Computational statistical physics :  D. Chowdhury
Systems far from equilibrium :  S.N. Majumdar

School Directors
M. Barma and D. Dhar,
Tata Institute of Fundamental Research,
Homi Bhabha Road, Mumbai 400 005.

The School is intended for Ph.D. students, post-docs and interested college teachers. All selected candidates will be provided travel, board and lodging as per DST norms, and are required to attend the entire school. Those interested to participate should write, preferably by e-mail to: statphys04@theory.tifr.res.in; or to one of the School Directors by November 15, 2003 with their CV and list of published papers if any. Also, they should arrange for a letter of recommendation.
