The activity "From Strings to LHC II" kicks off on the morning of Tuesday, December 11 with the Advanced School, which lasts until lunchtime Tuesday December 18. The Topical Conference will start on December 19 and run until lunchtime on December 23. Below is some information related to the activity. Please read the sections relevant to yourself carefully. Useful Maps : Fireflies IISc TRANSPORTATION -------------- The activity will take place at Fireflies Ashram which is located in Kaggalipura, south of Bangalore. Its full postal address is Pipal Tree Fireflies Ashram Dinnepalya, Kaggalipura Post Bangalore 560 082 Buses are being arranged to take arriving participants to Fireflies from the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore. Precise dates and times are given below under the relevant headings for the Advanced School and Conference. For those not familiar with the Institute of Science, it is located on a sprawling campus in Malleswaram, a locality of Bangalore. It is sometimes known to auto-rickshaw drivers as "Tata Institute". The departure point will be near the Centre for High Energy Physics (CHEP), which is close to the Mathematics department. Click here for a map of the Indian Institute of Science. In addition, you should look for posted signs or enquire with the security guards. Ask them either for Mathematics Department or Molecular Biophysics Unit (MBU) as they are much more known. If you wish to come to Fireflies directly you are welcome to do so. The distance from central Bangalore is about 30 km and a taxi is likely to cost Rs 750. (A pre-paid taxi can be booked at the airport. Please give the full address of Fireflies while booking.) Driving directions: i) Take Kanakpura Main Rd. ii) Before reaching Kaggalipura Bus Stand you will come to a Ganesha Temple. iii) Turn right at the Temple for village "Dinnepalya". iv) Go 3.5 km to the Ashram (there are several signs on the road to guide you). v) The Ashram is called ``Minchula Ashram'' in Kannada (the local language). This might be helpful when asking for directions. vi) A useful map can be obtained by clicking here. If you know your arrival times etc the Ashram can book a taxi for you before hand. Please speak to Manjula at the phone numbers of the Ashram, below. A taxi may be your only option if you do not make it for either of the above buses. Students/young participants who for unforeseen reasons are unable to catch the bus, may request us after arrival for (partial) financial support towards a taxi, which we will consider if the conference finances permit. ADVANCED SCHOOL --------------- Lectures at the Advanced School will start at 10:30 AM on the first day, while on subsequent days they will start at 9:30 AM. A timetable of lectures is on the website. Friday December 14 as well as the last day, Tuesday December 18, will be half-days and the lectures will end by lunchtime. The schedule of buses leaving IISc (Centre for High Energy Physics - CHEP) for Fireflies in advance of the School is as follows: (I) Monday December 10, 5:30 PM (II) Monday December 10, 7:30 PM (III) Tuesday December 11, 8:00 AM Please come early to make sure you do not miss your bus. Buses will be arranged from Fireflies to the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore right after lunch on December 18, for those participants who leave on that day. TOPICAL CONFERENCE ------------------ Lectures at the Topical Conference will start at 10:30 AM on the first day, December 19, while on subsequent days they will start at 9:30 AM. A timetable of lectures is being put up on the website. Friday December 21 will be an off-day during which an excursion is being organised to see the spectacular 12th century Hoysala temples at Belur and Halebid. The last day, Sunday December 23, will be a half-day.
