Fonts and Software

• Proprietary:
  • C-DAC, Pune: Unix, DOS, Windows, Mac; a range of wordprocessing and related software.
  • Gujarati Guru Windows 3.1, Windows 95 or later; Teaches how to read and write Gujarati; contains grammar, dictionary encyclopedia and fonts.
  • Indian Languages Keyboard Program: Windows 3.1 and Windows 95; simplified keyboard assignment and TrueType fonts for use with any editor (by Avinash Chopde).
  • InProS: Temporarily disabled (May 14, 1997).
  • LaserGujarati: Windows 95, Windows 3.1x, DOS, Mac system 6.0.7 or later; TrueType or Type 1 plain, bold italic or bold-italic styles in various sizes; keyboard switcher allows upto 4 characters per key (not for DOS).
  • Mrs Guji: Windows 3.1/95/98/NT; virtual keyboard, Gujarati language teaching and pronounciation.
  • Krishnasoft Hindi Word Processor: Windows 95/98, Windows 3.x, Windows NT, all with at least 4MB RAM; TrueType full wordprocessor, able to export to other programs like MS-Word etc, and can import graphics in several formats. Font set includes Assamese, Bengali, Devanagari, Gujarati and Gurumukhi.
  • SaralSoft: Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Mac, Power PC; scalable TrueType fonts, point and click typing in Gujarati. Also see Saral Klik-2 Type.
  • Thadani: Windows; four scalable TrueType fonts for Gujarati.
  • Unitype: Windows 95/98 or NT 4.0; multi-language software including translations between supported languages.
  • The Universal Word: Windows 3.1 or Windows 95; multilingual word processor, including mail merging.
  • Vijay: Mac and IBM PC; Gujarati Radhika, Priti and Palana fonts with phonetic keyboard mapping.
  • Wordmate: Windows 3.0/3.1 or DOS 3.0 or higher; keyboard conversion and fonts for many languages.
• Shareware/Freeware:
  • ITRANS: rather widespread package for transliteration of Indian languages. The home page has links to further information.
  • TeX support for Gujarati: Haven't come across any yet, if you know of a site or have some information, use the form at the bottom of the page to contact me.
