James McKintosh


James McKintosh, founded the Literary Society of Bombay (now the Asiatic Society) in 1804, with the aim of "promoting useful knowledge, particularly such as is now immediately connected with India". While holding the post of the Recorder for Bombay, he revived a proposal for building a Town Hall in the city.

He held the post of the Chief Justice of Bombay between 1804 and 1811.
