Cray-TIFR Workshop on High Performance Computing in Physics

Cray-TIFR Workshop

High Performance Computing in Physics

General Information

This program aims to bring together a community of people who intensively use high performance computing (HPC) to address interesting questions in science. The community of such people in India has grown over the last few years, and the growth is accelerating. The workshop aims to foster a discussion on advances in the HPC landscape and how these advances in HPC can be put to use in research. We aim to pay close attention to computational techniques, HPC requirements, computational performance applications, data management strategies, and physical facility challenges in hosting petaflop computing systems.

We plan to have a workshop on February 8, 2011 and a pedagogic school aimed mainly at early-career researchers on February 9, 2011. Both programs will be held in the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. There is no conference fee. Places are extremely limited, so please pre-register if you would like to be invited.

The schedule

The schedule for the workshop (February 8) and school (February 9) are now available in the TIFR web calendar. The school is addressed to young researchers.

Registration

Pre-registration is closed. If you have pre-registered and have an invitation, then you need to confirm your participation through an email reply. Such a confirmation is needed in order to enter TIFR. The list of confirmed participants is available.

Practical information

Prepaid taxis are available from both the domestic and international airports. TIFR lies in the extreme southern end of Mumbai (see this map of Mumbai). TIFR is easily reached from most hotels in south Mumbai by taxi or bus. The workshop will take place in lecture room AG 66 of the Tata Institute of Fundamental research (see also the layout plan of TIFR).

If you are accommodated in the guest house, then, on arrival in TIFR please proceed directly to the guest house and check in. Mention the name of the conference while checking in. If you want to have your dinner in campus then the options are the canteen (check the canteen timings) and a small cafetaria which runs in the ground floor of the building called Jagadish (this is open till about midnight).

The temperature in Mumbai in early February is around 28—35 Celcius. No rain is expected, but you may want to check the satellite photo for the day.
