Abstract
The authors discuss an asymmetric exclusion process with open boundaries, as well as non-conservation of particles in the bulk. In the regime where the boundary and bulk dynamics are competing, different kinds of stationary states are seen. In particular, it is possible to have coexistence of a high density and alow density region separated by a localised domain wall. The phase diagram is derived using a mean field approach.
