Abstract
Polymers have been studied in solutions, but only recently has a technique for mass spectroscopy (MALDI) made it possible to vaporise polymers intact into a vacuum. An isolated polymer in a vacuum is a statistical mechanical system (for large N), but one has to take care of angular momentum (L) conservation while writing the partition function. The papers I will talk about have studied the radius of gyration and the autocorrelation function of polymers in a vacuum and their behavior as functions of N and L.
