Born: November 10, 1920 in Baroda.
Sadanand Bakre joined the J. J. School of Art in 1939, and won several awards for the next five years in the annual Bombay Art Society exhibitions. He was one of the founder members of the Progressive Artists' Group in 1948. In the following year, at the exhibition of the Bombay Art Society, his entry was awarded the Silver Medal for the best sculpture.
Both a painter and a sculptor, Bakre now lives and works on the Konkan coast of Maharashtra at Murud-Harnai. He has had one-man shows at Gallery One (London) in 1959, the Centaur Gallery (Mumbai) in 1962 and at the Commonwealth Institute in 1961. He has also exhibited in many galleries in Europe and the United States.
