Brihanmumbai Suburban Electric Supply


The BSES supplies power to the western suburbs of Mumbai north of Bandra. South Mumbai gets its power from the BEST, and the eastern suburbs from the MSEB.

The BSES has commissioned a project of 500MW at Dahanu in two units of 250 MW each. Unit I has been operating to its rated capacity, while Unit II will commence commercial operations shortly.

The company has reported a 30% rise in its total income of Rs. 762.23 crores for the six months which ended in Sep 30, 1995. In the previous year its income was Rs. 588.38 crores in the corresponding period. The gross profit, before depreciation and interest charges, has risen by 34% to Rs. 119.81 crores from Rs. 89.36 crores. The sum set aside for depreciation is Rs. 14.92 crores (Rs. 11.35 crores). As the company is eligible for tax concessions for its new projects, no allocation has been made in respect of taxation against Rs. 28.50 crores. The residual profit has therefore increased by 92% per cent to Rs. 85.02 crores from Rs. 44.38 crores.

The total income was Rs. 1214.40 crores and the gross profit before depreciation and interest charges Rs. 181.04 crores. A dividend of 26% was paid out of the profit after taxation of Rs. 146.66 crores.
