Chembur and Ghatkopar

See also the document on the Northern Suburbs.

By 1916 Ghatkopar had developed sufficiently that a municipal council for Ghatkopar-Kirol was set up. The opening up of Chembur followed the new railway line connecting it to Kurla. Of the 4000 building plans sanctioned in 1921, a substantial number were in Chembur. By the 1930's the opening up of Ghatkopar and Chembur was complete. The administration was in charge of a Collector with the "Suburban District". In 1945 these areas were absorbed into Greater Bombay.
